A Description of Geneseo School District in Relation to Demographics and Main Focus

Geneseo School District is a Title 1 School, qualifying them for Title 1 funding each year. It has approximately 140 students and has three homerooms per grade level, each consisting of about 23-25 students. There is a 1% minority population and a 28% Free and Reduced population currently. In regards to staff, the Geneseo School District has content teachers in Social Studies and Science ranging in grade levels, including K-1, 2-3, and 4-5. There is also an enrichment teacher and three Reading AIS teachers. For the elementary level, they are currently looking into the possibility of adding a Reading Recovery Teacher and a Literacy Coach. For the Summer 2013 Geneseo is starting a Summer Reading and Math program for students entering grades one and two. The main focus of Geneseo School District at this time is to align the curriculum with the Common Core Standards of New York State. Geneseo also focuses on developing a more structured and mapped out curriculum for all grade levels to follow.
